In a huge stride toward sustainability and enhancing community spaces, two impactful sustainability solutions the Faculty of Philosophy put into practice are the original proposals from the SOHACK hackathon. These initiatives truly show the big impact of the project in fostering actionable ideas and further empowering students to make meaningful contributions to their campus and community. Let's have a closer look at these exciting changes!

Water Station: Decrease Plastic Usage

Realizing we gotta cut down on single-use plastic waste, the Faculty of Philosophy set up a drinking water station. It's right inside the building, so it would be very easy for students and staff to fill up their reusable bottles at any time during the day. This little move is a big deal because it helps everyone get into better habits and cuts down on the environmental impact of campus.

By making it super easy to get clean drinking water, the faculty is helping the community make eco-friendly choices that are good for both people and the planet.

Social Green Space: A Refreshing Change of Pace

The second thing that is being done is revamping the inner yard of the faculty. From just a paved, uninteresting spot, it is now a relaxed green hangout area with benches and plants.

It really is a space that will encourage students and staff to take it easy, hang out, and rejuvenate in a peaceful and beautiful environment. Adding plants not only looks great but also helps with biodiversity and raises the air quality around us. That's a nice example of how good design can make spaces work for everyone's well-being and be good for the environment too.

Why These Changes Matter These projects reflect the ideology of making sustainability concrete and doable. The two ideas, a drinking water station and a social green space, were spawned during the collaboration of students at the SOHACK hackathon. This means that by realizing these ideas, the project demonstrates the power of interdisciplinary teamwork and participatory approaches in solving real-life problems. The drinking water station reduces plastic use and solves one of the big problems that damage the environment. Meanwhile, social green space is a point of how to bring new life to uncared-for places for the benefit of people and nature. Altogether, these ideas show how the Faculty of Philosophy is all about weaving sustainable habits into daily life on campus. These projects are a great inspiration for other places to think about doing the same kind of stuff. By putting sustainability and community vibes first, the Faculty of Philosophy—thanks to the SOHACK project—is totally paving the way for a greener, more connected future. Let’s give a shoutout to these changes and keep pushing for cool solutions that actually make an impact!
